  • Location
    IHF’s has been working with vulnerable and displaced children in Thailand since 1984. Based in the City of Chiang Rai in North Thailand it is close to the borders of both Myanmar and Laos, IHF manages a children’s home, child education and community development programs. Depending on the skills and experiences of our volunteers, we have in the past also set-up medical clinics, adult education programs and cultural exchange programs with local hill tribes. Our Thailand centre needs some renovation having housed 28 children up until early 2017. These children had grown-up together and having now graduated them all, we are preparing the centre for the next generation of children. Interns will be required either to lead the renovation program or to organize the daily management of the volunteers visiting the centre. Applicants will a background in building or another similar trade will be strongly considered.
    Overview
    The IHF Global Leadership Development Internship is a non-credit, certificate program designed to help you:
    Acquire leadership and management capacities that will enable you to lead in the ever-changing global environment
    Develop a cross-cultural mindset that will allow you to lead in an increasingly globalized world
    Gain practical experience in an NGO environment
    Build a global network with people from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds
    The Global Leadership Development Internship requires an initial commitment of 4 months but may be extended to up to a year depending on the candidate.
    During this time you will:
    Complete rotational assignments in the core components of an international organization (including management skills, policy and procedures, finance, fundraising, media & PR, donor relations, legal, medical training and recruitment)
    You will be required to organize and manage teams of volunteers locally
    Organize a schedule of repairs for the renovation of the centre, train volunteers in basic to intermediary DIY skills and help to source local tradesman and materials for ongoing repairs
    or
    Help give English language support to the children living at the center, help to organize games and activities for them at weekends.
    Plan and organize volunteer afternoon and evening timetables include day, evening and weekend trips in and around Chiang Rai.

    Eligibility

    IHF is looking for individuals who can commit to the 12-month volunteer program with a strong interest in global leadership.

    Essential Requirements
    Volunteers accepted to this program will have: a relevant degree from an accredited university or comparable professional experience, confidence using the English language, A passion for international development with a particular emphasis on universal education, the means to live in country for a minimum of 6 months, be open-minded, patient, caring and willing to learn have a commitment to our Core Values.

    Preferable Requirements
    Previous international travel and volunteer experience, career development goals consistent with IHFs Core Values, proficiency in computer skills specifically Google Suite applications.

    Program Cost
    Volunteers accepted into our Global Leadership Development Program are required to submit a $100 USD non-refundable deposit to hold their spot in this program. Accommodation and meals, prepared by a local member of staff, are included in this program. Interns will also be provided a small living stipend to cover local expenses.

    Initial visa fees are the responsibility of the volunteer, however subsequent visa renewal fees will be covered by IHF.
    Note: due to the nature of our work with children, should you application be accepted we do require a criminal background check which is less than 1 year old.
