Virtual STEM Camp 2020 takes place on August 11 and 12 from 10:45am - 2:15pm EDT. This is the mandatory orientation meeting for students who want to serve as facilitators / mentors for the program.
Facilitators do not need to know anything about engineering or design thinking. In fact, if you don't that is great, you will learn along with the participants! The goal is to get the campers to learn from and teach each other.
This camp is designed to be a foundational experience for students in 4th-8th grade to build 21st century skills around design thinking and what it means to engineer solutions to complex real-world problems.
Join us to experience design thinking intertwined in the engineering design process as you engage in prototyping, collaboration, reflecting, asking questions, being creative, and most importantly, developing empathy in designing two different products over two days.
Volunteers from InnerView will be co-mentors with another adult volunteer where both will be in their own Zoom breakout room with around ten 4th-8th grade camp participants.
It is preferred that each volunteer has used Zoom or be tech-savvy to learn quickly.
Volunteers will need to toggle back and forth between Zoom and Moodle platforms.
Volunteers will learn strategies for facilitating small groups of 4th-8th graders. For example, knowing when to listen, wait, ask questions, encourage and provide constructive feedback, and when to probe for participation so campers learn from each other.
