Ohio University (informally known as "OHIO") is a major U.S. public research university located on a 1,850-acre campus in Athens, Ohio, United States. Founded in 1804, it was the first university established in the former Northwest Territory, the first university in Ohio, and is the ninth oldest public university in the United States.
