If you live in an area that has been buried in snow over the last few days, one additional thing you can do to help your community is to make sure the fire hydrants near you aren't covered with snow. In the case of an emergency, it helps if fire fighters can quickly find and access the nearest fire hydrant.

Clear the snow off of the fire hydrant all the way to the ground and clear a path from the street to the fire hydrant.
