  • Looking for fun and engaging volunteer opportunities? We have many independent craft project ideas to help you earn service hours, keep you busy and engaged, and contribute to a good cause, all at the same time! You can do this from anywhere.

Samaritan is a not-for-profit agency based in Mount Laurel, NJ caring for people suffering from serious, progressive illness and grief. Your projects are delivered to our patients and their families to help brighten their day!

Choose one or multiple projects and work at your leisure. Projects may be mailed or delivered to: Samaritan, Attn: Sharon Wenner, 3906 Church Rd., Mount Laurel, NJ 08054. Deliver Mon-Fri, 8:30a-4:30p (excluding 12-1p).

    “Cheer Up” Project Ideas

    • Bookmark “monsters” - www.easypeasyandfun.com/diy-corner-bookmarks/

    • Clay Hearts – make marbled-color clay hearts for our staff to present to our families when their loved one passes. NOTE: We will provide specific instructions and supply list.

    • Blank journals with decorated covers (NO words/phrases)

    • Notecard Sets – decorate blank cards/cardstock for our families to use – do not include your own message.

    • Picture books – take a variety of nature photos, print, and bind to make a pretty picture book.

    • Texture Books – use items of various textures (sandpaper, feathers, cotton balls…) & adhere to cardstock pages. This is interactive for patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s who can’t communicate verbally.

    • Poetry Books – bind together short poems and inspirational quotes. Add clip art, stickers, photos, etc.

    • Silk Flower crafts: corsages, decorated pens, small potted arrangements

    • Wreaths

    • Homemade sachets – greatly appreciate by our Massage Therapy staff!

    • Balloon Stress Balls (filled w/ craft sand)

    • Pillows – hand-tie or sewLap blankets – quilt, crochet, knit, fleece, tied

    • For Veterans – flag pins, carnation boutonnieres, letters/cards, or any above item decorated patriotically

When safe, we will resume our SamariTeens program, our ongoing teen volunteer group, that meets in Mount Laurel and Voorhees, NJ one evening per month rotating locations, from 6-7:30pm, to make crafts for our patients and families to help bring some joy to their day. We also visit assisted living residences to play games with the residents. You also have the opportunity to represent Samaritan at teen volunteer fairs by manning an information table, participate in fundraisers, collection drives, and support annual events.

The cool thing? There are no mandatory requirements - you attend as many activities that fit your schedule and that you’d enjoy.
