The Yellow Ribbon Support Center offers scholarships in the names of the Fallen Heroes of Iraq and Afghanistan wars from the Tri-State area. The Gold Star Parents choose the school they want the scholarship to go to; then any senior can apply. The parents then choose the winner, and YRSC will send the check for the scholarship to the student directly.

This Fundraiser was started after Matt Maupin was captured in Iraq. Matt was missing for 4 years while his parents sent care packages to the troops with his picture in the boxes hoping that someone would see him. Each year on April 9th there was a gathering of family & friends to make sure Matt was not forgotten. It was decided that the scholarship dinner should be about all the Fallen Heroes with ties to the Tri-State area. On April 9th 2006 the first fundraiser was put together and held with $0.00 budget. In 2008 one soldier from every state was honored, for the next 4years. This ended after the local list grew so large we could no longer meet the need. We still honor those who come from out of state each year. This year we will be honored to have guests from Washington, Georgia, South Carolina, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland and Illinois.

When the fundraiser was started there were only 28 Tri-State fallen heroes; to date there are 102 Tri-State fallen heroes eligible to have scholarships given in their names. Parents who choose to have them honored with a scholarship support the event.
