Up to 1,000+ Afghans are expected to arrive in Houston, TX in the coming weeks. Upon arrival in the U.S. most Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) families have nothing. You can help ease their transition and make them feel welcome in our country by sending a friendship bracelet and a welcome note!
Here are a few videos tutorials on making friendship bracelets:

A few guidelines for your welcome note:
We ask that you do not use the word “refugee.” Since refugees are people that are forced to leave their homes, they tend to be defined by what they’re coming out of. Our goal is to help them move forward, from their crisis-centric reality to a thriving new life.
If you would like to address the note, do so with “Friends.” Feel free to sign with your first name and hometown, “One of your neighbors,” or however else you’d like.
Show compassion. Give encouragement. Be hopeful!
