  • 11th UNA-USA Youth Observer to the United Nations Himaja Nagireddy is embarking on the annual Listening Tour beginning September 1st.  The UNA-USA Youth Observer to the UN elevates youth voices in the global policy dialogue around international issues. For a one-year term, an American between the ages of 18 and 25 is selected to engage and connect young people in the U.S. to the work of the UN. The Youth Observer travels throughout the U.S. to discover the issues important to young Americans and participates as a UNA-USA delegate at UN conferences.

The objective of the 2022 Listening Tour is to gather input and information from American youth (ages 12-25) in order to create the U.S. Youth's Declaration of Human Rights, to be signed by as many American youth as possible, and submitted to the Office of the Secretary General and other various UN agencies. All youth ages 12-25 with residency in the United States are eligible to give input, whether or not they are UNA-USA youth members.

Listening tour stops take place over the course of one hour, and are run as a reverse town hall. The Youth Observer will come prepared with questions surrounding UN engagement, youth advocacy, and the sustainable development goals. These sessions will be recorded, and information from the sessions, including quotes from attendees, may be used in the U.S. Youth's Declaration of Human Rights, a report created by the Youth Observer.

This Listening Tour Stop will focus on SDG 13: Climate Action.
