Join the Green Crew, a youth-driven environmental leadership program within the Minnesota Valley Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, dedicated to conservation and service! Our internships offer motivated high school students the chance to make a real impact on the environment while gaining valuable skills for college applications and career opportunities. This internship is an ideal fit for students passionate about environmental stewardship, conservation, and leadership.
What You’ll DoGreen Crew interns engage in meaningful projects within various departments, including:
- Environmental Research– Collect data and support conservation science.
- Community Outreach– Inspire local communities to join conservation efforts.
- Project Management– Oversee project execution, timelines, and results.
- Youth Engagement– Develop workshops and promote conservation among peers.
- Marketing– Drive Green Crew’s visibility through social media and newsletters.
Each role includes hands-on responsibilities that allow interns to lead, innovate, and collaborate to create lasting environmental impacts. Interns meet bi-weekly with the Executive Director of Youth Programming and monthly with Green Crew’s Leadership team to ensure guidance, mentorship, and alignment with program goals.

Benefits of Joining Green CrewInterns are eligible to receive the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Service Award upon completing 200 hours over 12 months. You’ll also develop a professional portfolio of achievements, gain certifications, and make connections with like-minded peers and mentors dedicated to conservation. Past interns have advanced to leadership roles within Green Crew and beyond.
Program Expectations
Interns commit approximately 18 hours per month, including:
- Monthly Conservation Service Day – Third Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
- Leadership Team Meeting – First Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
This hybrid internship includes both on-site and remote activities, making it flexible while ensuring consistent, hands-on experiences.
