  • Have you ever noticed how a sentence in a story can make you imagine a place, hear a sound, or feel something happening?

In this online project, you’ll help an international team of researchers study how writers use language to create these kinds of sensory experiences. You’ll read individual sentences from different kinds of writing—like novels, world literature, fan fiction, and nonfiction—and quickly rate how much they make you imagine things like sights, sounds, touch, smell, taste, or physical feelings.

Your responses will help researchers better understand how storytelling engages our senses and imagination. The results will support academic research on how people experience stories across different genres and cultures.

It’s simple: read a sentence, share your first impression, and move to the next one. Your input helps researchers learn more about the power of language and storytelling.
