April 2nd is
World Autism Day, a day created to raise awareness, foster acceptance, and celebrate the unique perspectives and strengths of autistic individuals around the world.
To join the spirit of the day, Creative Changemakers asks you to create a piece of art, writing, music, or performance that honors the autistic experience, whether it is your own, that of someone you love, or the broader neurodiverse community.
Your work could be, but is not limited to, a poem that captures the beauty of thinking differently, a visual artwork that expresses the sensory richness of an autistic perspective, a short story about connection and belonging, or a recording of a song, spoken word piece, or personal reflection on what neurodiversity means to you and your community.
Step 1: Reflect on Your Connection to AutismThink about your relationship with autism as an autistic person, a family member, a friend, or an ally. What does the autistic experience mean to you? What stories, strengths, or moments of understanding do you want to honor?
Step 2: Choose Your Creative Medium
Decide how you want to tell your story. You could write, draw, paint, film, photograph, compose music, record audio, perform, or use any other creative form that speaks to you. Pick whatever medium feels most authentic to your message.
Step 3: Create Your Piece
Bring your idea to life! Remember, there's no right or wrong way to celebrate neurodiversity. Your piece can be personal, abstract, celebratory, reflective, or anything in between. What matters is that it comes from the heart.
Step 4: Reflect on the Connection
Write a brief reflection explaining what autism acceptance means to you and how your piece connects to building a more inclusive world that values every kind of mind.
Step 5: Submit Your Work
Share your completed creative piece and reflection by submitting to InnerView and to the Creative Changemakers portal
