Reflection
Organizing this collection drive was the biggest project I've ever done on my own, which made it even more rewarding to deliver all the food to the seniors. I'm excited that more people will get to enjoy a good Thanksgiving meal even though they can't be with family this year.
Project Impact
We collected enough food to create holiday meal bundles for 50 low-income seniors.

After talking with members of my family, I've identified a senior living facility for low-income seniors that I'd like to help. With Thanksgiving coming up, it's important to me that everyone has a good, healthy meal available for the holiday.

I found the phone number for the senior center online, called and set up an appointment to meet with the program director in person. Because of Covid-19 precautions, I wasn't able to go inside to meet any of the seniors, but Sarah and I spoke in the parking lot. She gave me a list of the foods that they need to be able to provide good food through the holiday season.

I was so excited after meeting with Sarah that I came straight home to work on my plan. I'm going to contact the two grocery stores closest to my home to find out if I can set up a table in the parking lot for the next two weekends.
Promote the Collection Drive

I've decided to focus on my church and a local grocery store for my collection drive. I spoke with the pastor of my church and he agreed to make an announcement at the end of each of the services this Sunday. I designed small flyers to hand out outside the church after service. I will then collect all of the donations the following Sunday. I also contact the manager of my local grocery store and she gave me permission to set up a table from 1pm-5pm this Saturday!

We had such a great response! At the grocery store, we handed out little slips of paper with the list of items we were collecting. Shoppers would buy items off the list in the store and then drop it off with us on their way out. The drive at church was also super successful. So many people wanted to do whatever they could to help seniors enjoy a good Thanksgiving.
Deliver Donations

Sarah asked that we prepare individual bags for each senior before delivering the food we collected. She provided the bags and it was easy to separate everything. It felt so good to make this special delivery in time for Thanksgiving!
