SUMMARY
Reflection
I learned a lot about food waste. I never thought it could be that bad. I also did my best to educate people about food waste and how to reduce it.
Project Impact
I posted several posts on Instagram hoping to reach a bigger audience and educate more people. The school I volunteer at has about 30 kids, and I taught them about food waste and solutions.
PROJECTS TASKS
Gather Food Waste Facts
5.00 hours leading an initiative | Curiosity
I researched food waste in the US and around the world. I watched food waste videos and read articles about how much food is wasted in the US and what it means for our environment. The facts are shocking and it is very sad to see it happening.
Socialize the Message
5.00 hours advocating on social media | Respect
I created an Instagram account to raise awareness about food waste. I posted the photo below and plan to post more. This account will require more work to attract attention, but I think I have good start.
Speak Truth to Power
9.00 hours leading an initiative | Compassion
I talked with a school I volunteer at to teach kids about food waste. We will be teaching them facts about food waste. Religiously for us it is wrong to waste food, so I will be teaching the kids about following our religious practices. I watch the kids during lunch time to give the teachers a break (I still have adults with me) and i will encourage them to finish their food, save what they can, or make good use of it like making a compost. The science teacher will teach them about food waste's impacts on our environment. I shared a compost poster to teach them about a good use for food leftovers. I spent around 4 hours arranging this and will spend around 4 or 5 hours supervising during lunch per week.
