    SUMMARY
    Reflection
Spending a month in the lab opened my eyes to something powerful and deeply personal—just how much potential lies in nanoparticles to ease the effects of Alzheimer’s on the brain. But this discovery didn’t just feel scientific; it felt personal, like a quiet call to action. Alzheimer's isn’t just a medical issue; it's a human one, affecting our parents, grandparents, and friends. I realized that if more people took the time to understand what dementia does, perform animal brain dissections to understand better, if we could even witness the changes in an affected brain firsthand, we might feel a deeper sense of urgency and empathy. Imagine a world where everyone understands Alzheimer’s not just as a word but as a reality—where people, whether they’re scientists or just caring family members, dedicate time to learning what it does to the mind. Every bit of awareness matters, every conversation chips away at the stigma, and every effort fuels the search for a cure. It’s that understanding and compassion, added into everyday life, that could give us the collective strength to truly make a difference. Alzheimer’s doesn’t have to be an inevitable, silent burden. Together, through knowledge and connection, we can bring light to a disease that’s taken too much from too many.
    Project Impact
You don’t need to be a doctor to make a difference in the lives of those living with dementia. Each of us has the power—and the responsibility—to help. By learning more, staying informed, and sharing what we know, we can create a ripple of understanding and compassion that reaches far beyond ourselves. Small actions, like reading recent articles, talking openly about dementia, or lending a listening ear, can bring comfort and clarity to those who need it most. Together, through awareness and empathy, we can build a community that supports, uplifts and stands beside every person affected by dementia.
    PROJECTS TASKS
    Page Week
10.00 hours participating in a community project | Curiosity
Governor's Page Program was a great place to get experience in government and think about new ways of contributing to our community!
    Project Planning
4.00 hours leading an initiative | Connectedness
In partnership with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, I volunteer with the Minds Matter Initiative, a program dedicated to spreading awareness, education, and support for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Through this initiative, I have the opportunity to connect with diverse communities, offering insights into how individuals and families can recognize early signs, seek resources, and manage the challenges associated with Alzheimer's. As part of my work, I write blogs and create content to reach a broader audience, translating complex medical information into accessible, actionable knowledge. Each piece I write aims to deepen understanding, reduce stigma, and promote early intervention, which can be crucial in improving quality of life for those affected by Alzheimer’s. My contributions span a variety of topics, from recent advancements in research to personal stories of resilience, and practical tips for caregivers. In addition to writing, I engage with audiences through Q&A sessions and informational talks, sharing ways the community can support ongoing research and advocating for greater empathy and support for those impacted by Alzheimer’s. By combining research-driven information with empathetic outreach, my work with the brain has allowed me to contribute meaningfully to a cause I’m deeply passionate about—empowering individuals and communities to take action in the fight against Alzheimer’s.
    Publicity
3.00 hours leading an initiative | Respect
Scheduled an interview with Dr. Hoffman - UNC-Chapel Hill and talked about the effects of alcohol on dementia, especially Alzheimer's Disease. Visiting her lab and asking qualitative questions, we once again realized the importance of awareness of dementia.
    Do the Project
    63.00 hours leading a program | Curiosity
I led brain dissections at various local locations free of charge and spent four weeks in a laboratory experimenting with nanoparticles on the brains of mice affected by dementia. During this time, I discovered that these nanoparticles can help reduce the effects of Alzheimer's disease on the brain exposed to dementia. I discovered that these nanoparticles can reduce the effects of Alzheimer's disease on the brain.
    Project Outcomes & Reflection
    34.00 hours leading a program | Compassion
For my Governor's Page Service Project, I undertook a mission to deepen understanding and improve public awareness around Alzheimer’s disease and its devastating impact on the brain. By offering my research for publication, which is currently under review, I aim to provide readers with insights into the effects of Alzheimer’s on the brain and practical ways to mitigate its impact on individuals and communities. Through leading brain dissections and educational workshops, I’ve begun to make strides in empowering people with knowledge and actions they can take against dementia-related challenges. This project has been a journey of partial success as I continue working toward my ultimate goal: to bridge scientific knowledge and community support by advancing research on Alzheimer's treatment. By bringing this critical issue into the public eye, I aim to create a ripple effect that inspires others to get involved, learn more, and actively participate in combating the effects of Alzheimer’s. My commitment to researching and educating about dementia remains strong as I pursue every opportunity to share knowledge, raise awareness, and drive meaningful action to ease the burden of Alzheimer’s on individuals, families, and society as a whole.
