SUMMARY
Reflection
I love helping the environment and feeling as though I have an impact to prevent plastic pollution, but in all honesty, I learned how specific and direct you have to be when addressing the general public. I got a lot of stuff that wasn’t part of the items I was collecting. It was kind of eye opening how much waste a small congregation of people can produce. We all have an impact.
Project Impact
Me and my community were able to collect 150 Terra Points through all the different categories. I ended up donation the points. With those points, I signed up to provide clean water to 20 families for one week & remove 60 pounds of carbon from our atmosphere. With the amount of items I got that weren’t part of my collection list, I started looking at my own ways to give them a second life. The main thing I got was plastic grocery bags, my favorite idea for them was to make blankets too keep the homeless off the ground, they don’t freeze and don’t attract bugs like cotton does. As for the other stuff, I started looking into eco-bricking.

The church near by has given me the okay & I have told my neighbors about the bins outside my house (I got the okay from my mom)
Decorate the Collection Box

I have 4 tubs sett up with signs and posters. I plan to leave 2 at both locations, and clean & unload both bi-weekly. The tubs have to be outside so I needed to gather rocks to be in the bottom.
Promote Collection Drive | Month 1

The church near by has let me keep a bin at their front door & I wrote up an ‘add’ for their weekly news letter and their Facebook page.
Promote Collection Drive | Month 2

I decided to make a promo video for my collection drive going into more depth because I haven't gotten much plastic or even the right types. I wrote a script, recorded it, added closed captioning, published, and shared it.
Ship Recyclables

I made 2 shipments one last month and this one. I got a lot of stuff that want part of the drive so I really didn’t get that many points. I’m still trying to decide where do donate them
