SUMMARY
Reflection
In the past, climate change always got confused with Global Warming. This idea that the environment could change for the worse was a hot topic in schools and in the political scene. My goal with my service for this was to see how much people knew, on a high school level, about the climate crisis and the effects they have on the environment. Most of the responses seemed to know a decent amount about the basic effects of climate change, but the one effect most of the participants didn't know about was the effect that climate change has on indigenous/native people in their countries. That would be understandable, due to how little we even see Native Americans represented in the United States ALONE. My conclusion from this survey is that most upperclassmen in high school know about climate change in depth, but it's hard for them to think about it on a global scale. They all knew about car emissions, which is great.
Project Impact
My goal of this was to make students more aware of their environment, and to think of little things to change in their daily routine that could help.
PROJECTS TASKS
Say It With Research
3.00 hours leading an initiative | Curiosity
I looked at all links, and read the pdfs/articles about climate change and how it is more important than ever to help younger people understand the change going on in our environment.
Say It With Scientists
2.00 hours participating in a workshop | Respect
I watched a pre-recording of one of these events, where scientists talked about the impact of the warming of the client and lack of biodiversity in some areas of the world lead to more extreme problems in poorer regions and areas.
Say It With Community
3.00 hours leading an initiative | Connectedness
Created a survey to analyze how much kids in high school know about climate change
